My Alex Okafor Football Camp Adventure in Kansas City

August 25, 2019

First off, I would like to thank Alex Okafor and Martin Bayless for this opportunity and me and my father cannot thank them enough.

So it all started when I was invited to this camp by a neighbor and I accepted the offer thinking it was just a regular camp. Once I arrived at the camp, they made everyone sign some papers and enter a ticket into some sort of raffle.

After having some fun, seeing some NFL players (Earl Thomas, Kenny Vaccaro, and of course, Alex Okafor) and getting some great advice on basic football fundamentals and life lessons.

I left and nearly forgot about the camp. After about two months or so, my mom got some emails that had some stuff to do with the camp and to my surprise, I won a trip to Kansas City and two tickets and two on-field passes to a Kansas City Chiefs Game! This was so exciting, and I couldn’t wait to go. My mom booked our flights right away and we were leaving on Friday, August 23rd. Before I knew it me and my dad were on the plane to Kansas City.

When we arrived in Kansas City we took Uber to our hotel. On the way to the hotel, our Uber got pulled over because her trunk was open, and it wouldn’t close. After we arrived at the hotel, it was dinner time, so me and my dad went to get some dinner. After dinner, we walked around and saw the plaza and got some chiefs gear.

On the day of the game, Martin Bayless came to our hotel and took us to lunch and we met the other winner. After some time, Alex came and we got to take some pictures and met him before the game.

Once we arrived at the stadium, got to go on the field. This was a great experience, we got to see some of the players closeup and see them practice before the game. Even though the Chiefs lost this was one of the best experiences of my life. My favorite part was getting to see the players up close and getting to meet Alex on the Field.

Once again, I cant thank Alex Okafor and Martin Bayless enough for this opportunity.

My Alex Okafor Football Camp Adventure in Kansas City

August 28, 2019

I always hear about the many firsts in my life from my mom and dad. My first words. I enjoy listening about them, but of course, I don’t remember any of them. To hear, from my dad, that I had won a pair of tickets to go and see the Kansas City Chiefs play at the famous Arrowhead Stadium, my first NFL game, I was very excited knowing that I would always remember this.

It all started with my dad asking me if I wanted to attend a football camp being sponsored by the Alex Okafor Camp. He told me that Alex would be there coaching us as well as other NFL football players. Of course, I said yes. This would be the first time I would be around real NFL players.

The camp was hard but fun at the same time because they had us do drills I had never done before. I got to train with Alex (Chiefs) and his friends, Earl Thomas (Ravens), Kareem Martin (Giants), Kenny Vaccaro (Titans), just to name a few. All the drills were set up to be challenging. I learned a lot and found the drills to be helpful in getting me ready for the upcoming football season.

When I found out that I had won the tickets, I really could not believe it. My dad had to show the email from Martin Bayless (ex. Chiefs player, among others). This journey would become my first of many experiences.

It was my first time on an airplane. Flying was very tricky and confusing having to go through security and locating the right gate. The fun part came with the take off and getting up in the air. The landing was also scary and fun at the same time.

Mr. Bayless treated us to lunch and we also got to take pictures with Alex at the restaurant. It was the first time I ever got to take a picture with a NFL player, I was nervous not knowing if he was going to be nice or very serious. He was very tall and made me and my dad look short. Probably because we are short! He turned out to be very nice.

Finally, we got a ride to the stadium with Mr. Bayless. This would be my first time to see a NFL game live. There was a lot of excitement in the air with all the tail-gating going on. The best part was having the opportunity to go on the field while the players practiced. Lots of things going on while you are on the field. It is a lot of fun and you don’t realize how tall the players are until  you are down there with them. When we got to our great seats, only 10 rows up from the field, we got to participate in the “tomahawk” chop and chant with all the other thousands of Chiefs’ fans. I have heard the chant on TV, but never in person. And never at Arrowhead Stadium, the loudest stadium in the nation. It was crazy! The game didn’t turn out with a win for the Chiefs, but I did get to see Patrick Mahomes complete a 62 yard touchdown pass. Probably the best QB in the NFL this year!

The whole weekend was amazing and could not have been made possible without the support and hard work of Alex Okafor, his foundation, and Mr.Bayless. Oh yeah, I can’t forget to thank my dad and especially my mom for letting us go. Thanks Mom!
